Can anyone tell me where the module is or what controls the power windows? I have had the 1996 V-8 Explorer' for about 2 years and it has had a problem with the windows the complete time. When we first got it' the windows might not work after we had rolled them down, but after you drove down the road for a little ways they would then work. It got worse as time went on! For a few months it didn't work any at all, and here latley it may go a week and not work and then work all at once. Sometimes it would be working and i could get out and open the rear trunk and get back in the truck and it would quit working...I have moved wires and checked everything i knew to check and can't get anything to work when it quits working. If someone could at least tell me where the module is located....
thanks...... :cool::eek:

well I just had the same prob. with my passenger side window...what I did was take off the door panel(it just snaps off and comes off over the top)once i did this i noticed there was a red and yellow wire connector on my door(geussing it was power up and power down to the window motor) check the voltage on it and if it has a current 12 v then its your window motor, it could be going or burnt up... if it does not have 12 v then it is the power window switch relay,or the button you push to put up or down the window..If this relay under the button has gotten wet more then likely it has corroded and needs to be cleaned there are fragile metal connectors in there that may have been broken off if you notice that then replace it---14 $...also i noticed on mine that it had automatic roll down and up if yours has this you wanna check the metal piece that activates the drigger and see if its all the way down and clicked if it is that is your problem..you would unlatch it and the metal piece should pop back up... once you get the switch relay off you will know what im saying plus if you just play around with the relay alittle you can find what the problem is...when you play around with the relay and you notice nothing with motor then the motor is probably dead...one more thing there is a ground located on the middle of your door after you take the pannel off, check that too ...

WINDOWS!

1 thing u don't understand is all my windows won't work when this happens.... They wouldn't roll up any last night and this morning i tryed over and over and then left the driver door open with engine running' got in the backseat and shut the door and they started working. it just works when it wants to......will the metal piece that activates the drigger still cause this? Or will anything on the driver side door cause this? Does the driver side have the main controls on it? thanks......:p

well there is a motor and relay to all of you windows...the setup should look the same for every window except driver there should be a bigger relay box...assuming...what it sounds like is that a wire...maybe a power or a ground...might be pinched on your driver side open your driver side door and take out the rubber boot --its a wire loom, this wire loom sits next to the door hinge, and examine your wires if you dont see anything f ed up..then I would take the drive side door relay out--in most upgraded explorers the windows come with automatic up and auto down (where you push the button down once and let go and the window goes on its own... sometime those get locked into place and it doesnt give your windows a steady power current? does that make sense...once you press the window button again it releases the putton from the auto window latch and lets it operate that is also why sometimes they work and others they dont......do you understand i felt like I just wrote a book,and anyways if ur going to do it urself the first thing i would do is check all you relays power wires and grounds
