I've got the CB, PIAA's and the air compressor wires running thru the door jams. And now it leaks sometimes.

My question is how is everyone running the wires to the battery and into the cab?

Thru the door jams? Cut holes in the roof for lights? How do you guys run all your audio, stereo and aftermarket parts wiring?

Thanks?

drill holes or use some of the holes already there... on my toyota, there is a big hole where the speedometer cable goes through the firewall, there are many wires also running through this to aftermarket parts....

I run everything through the factory rubber grommet. This is located just above and to the left of your brake pedal. It will come out right ehind your master cylinder in the engine compartment. Hope that helps a bit.

It does. I've looked and looked but now I know where to look exactly.

What about for people who have lights on the roof?

I've ran soooo much crap through that big A grommet (where the clutch pedal is supposed to go) in the driver's side footwell. 4 ga, 8 ga, 3-4 12 ga, a 10 ga... etc

As for the lights on my roof, I have the wire running along the inside of the truck (where the headliner and the interior panel meet) and out the grommet that leads to the hatch wiring. I also have my back up lights and CB antenna cable running through the same grommet.

No problems yet

EDIT: I used to build/wire cop cars (2.5 years) and I am a MECP certified car stereo installer... so I know a thing or 2 about car wiring and adding aftermarket electronics. You ain't seen a bundle of wires until you see how many have to be run through the firewall in a cop car!

Mine are "Ghetto" style. My kc wires go through the sun roof and it leaks!.I really need to re route them. THey go to the battery through that little crack in betwen the fender and windshield.

For the firewall, the easiest is the grommet on the passenger side that the radio antenna wire goes through. You have to remove the fenderwell liner to get to it. And on the inside, just pop the glove box out. Of course my experience is in the 2nd Gen X's. Don't know if the 1st Gens are the same.

Yeah I have.....LOL...the installers just cut the ends off of everythuing in my ride...They left all the wires still there.....

Did you also uninstall? How hard are wig-wags to hook up in Crown vics?(IF you did them)

snap a quick picture of all the wires running... I'm curious.

You don't want to see what a retired police vehicle looked like when I had to do an uninstall. There were times when I put on latex gloves. One car they drilled the floor pan to run the wires, didn't use a grommet or silicone and for 3 years the water sat under the damn carpet and I had to do the uninstall on a hot summer day.... gross...

What a bad unistall if they left the wires... I ALWAYS completely stripped em

Crank, yeah I can damn near install a wig wag on a Crown Vic in my sleep... Geez, I think I can still remember the wires for the high beams and parking lights. I think the green with purple stripe is the high beams (blue wire on wig wag?) and the brown wire is the parking light turn on, then hook up the white wire to the battery, black to ground, and the red to a 12V switch... hmm, isn't there a yellow wire there too? lol

Like Hokie said...you don't wanna know....luckily all my wires are run through proper grommets and hidden, except under the dash....

Just drill a hole in the fire wall. just make sure of what is on the other side. use refrance points when you drill.( former car audio installer) for my roof lights I ran the power and ground inside the roof rack track and through the rear hatch. then to the relays in the side panel. All my lights will be run with relays.
