ok so i go to take one of my wheels off today to have my dad check the brakes and stuff. One lug nut is hard to get off and i see that the threads on the nut are stripped and the threads of the (not sure what its called, not very good with terms or anything) lug? wherever the nut screws on are stripped too. What can i do about this? what will i have to replace? any ideas on cost? any info will be appreciated. Thanks

Ryan

well being the studs are in the rotor i dont know if they can be pounded out? someone help me here.... if not you gotta buy i new rotor or rethread the stud. which would probley make it weak

I'm pretty sure the stud can be replaced. You may have to heat it up a bit with a torch or use some good penetrant, but they come out. Get a new stud (auto parts store should have them) and put it in the hole in the rotor. If the threads in the lug are damaged, get a new lug too. Put some washers on the stud to act as spacers and use the lug to pull the stud into the rotor and seat it.

Seems more formidible than it is

I had Sam's snap one off when they fixed a flat. Funny, I use never sieze on the threads and I easily put the spare on by hand. Think the had the air wrench in the wrong direction. Anyway they told me it wasn't needed! I digress. Hey, I don't know what they call it either. Just give it a quick pop with a hammer, they fall right out. And just cause I'm cheap, I knocked one out of another axel. Put it through the hole, put a large nut over it, maybe a washer, get an extra lug nut that you won't later use on the car, grease up the threads, and tighten the nut down till it pulls through. So just pop out the old one and bring it to an auto store and say I want one of these. This whole adventure won't cost $5.
