I have a 2000 Explorer Sport that only blows out the top of the dash, no matter where I turn the dial. The blower speed controls work, and the off setting works, I can even hear the AC click in when I turn to it, but it too only blows in defrost. What could this be?

Thanks

The Ex's use vacuum to control the area the heat/ac goes to. Does your Ex display any other problems?

In other words the Vacuum system probably has a leak somewhere.

No other problems really (except for the driver window thats acting up, but probably not related) runs good and all that. Any idea where the vacuum line that controls it would be?

I have no idea where the leak could be, if it was a bad leak it would cause various problems with the vehicle. Hopefully someone who has had this problem will report into this thread.

I would start by checking at the vacuum resevoir (the round ball thing under the hood with the hoses coming out of it).

a simple way to check for vacuum is to simply unplug the hoses and use your finger to feel if it "pulls" on your skin. if you don't have any "pull" then there is a leak in that area.

I am not saying this is the only thing that causes this problem but it was what caused mine in another vehicle.

Attached is a pic from another thread of the later model Explorers. The vacuum reservoir is locted in the passenger side front wheelwell under a bunch of stuff.
This thread has a ton of pictures showing where the globe is in various years.

As slpdave suggests vacuum problems would be the first line of troubleshooying, with mechanical problems such as a stuck or busted door, switch problems, etc. next.

Do some searches, ask some questions, everyone's friendly.
