Today was the maiden voyage of my 99 Exploder limited. I still have some issues I want to address, but it's plenty good enough to hop in and take to the daughter's color guard competition, so we did.

Dropped her off for practice. The pre-competition rehearsal took two and a half hours. The wife and I sat in the truck and read from our Kindles.

I was very pleased, because the radio was working. I had fixed the radio per some other threads here, and it tickled me to have it going.

Then the smoke started to come out of the dashboard. I turned the car off.

The board I repaired was the power supply for the display, and it has apparently failed again. I may buy a replacement board, but i have a friend who is an electroinic geek and might be able to fix it., He suggests moving the power resistors up off the board using what he calls 'Spiral leads". These leads not only dissipate heat but prevent damage due to vibration. I'm gonna give it to him to look at.

In the meantime, I suspect what happened was the Previous Owner had fried that circuit board, and it took out a fuse at the same time. Looks like he changed it, and then it blew again. So he put in a 25 amp fusel thereby using the car's wiring as a fuse. So I get to split the loom apart and find the damage his stupidity caused me. I love working up under the dash!! I'm the kind of **** retentive nutbag that will go to a yard, trace the proper wire, remove it from the harness and from the fuseblock, and put it in my car, so the wiring is precisely as original. No, I'm not too smart. But I figured I'd share my Maiden Voyage adventure with y'all.
