I got my first chip out of my windshield in my X and it sucks. Right now it's a little crack, about the size of a nickel. So, what's the best way to take care of it so it doesn't spread?

The good thing is that it's about a half inch above the passenger windshield wiper, so it's not easily seen...

I would take it to a glass shop, and have them fix it. I think it is about $30, and sometimes insurance will pay for it. You could also try one of those DIY kits ($5) found in auto parts stores/wal mart, etc. although I don't know how good those work. As a last resort, I have heard you can use a razor to make a score around the crack to keep it from spreading. Can you describe the damage more specifically, like crack, chip, bulls-eye?

It's got two or three little chips on the outside (you can feel them with your finger) and then it has misc. cracks in about a nickel's radius. I'll try and get a pic up tomorrow.

beside drilling a hole at the end of the crack and filling it i cant see how it will stop. some places repare them make some calls

A little unknown trick...

Buy some super glue and drip some over the crack; it will immediately begin to fill the crack. Press firmly around the crack, then let up - do this about 10 times or until the entire crack is filled. Then, when the entire crack is filled, press on the window around the crack for at least fifteen seconds, firmly. After the fifteen seconds are up pour water over the crack to solidify any super glue on the outside of the windshield. Take a razorblade and scrape off the dried superglue. You'll still see the crack a little, but it won't continue to seperate.

wont it only get worse during the cold months when water gets in and freezes(expands) ?

first of all, get some tape and stick in on a crack to prevent dirt from comming inside the crack. and I would deffenatelly take the truck to a glass shop and have them fixed it. the trick with super glue may wolk and may not work - depends on the kind of crack you got, and if it doesn't work then it can even make the situation worse because after that glass shops may have troubles fix the crack.

I don't think that the super glue will work. It has a different coefficient of expansion and will completely break the screen over time with expansion and contraction. Over here we have some do-it-yourself screen repair kits which use a polymer with the same optical characteristics as glass and the same coefficient.
