I had a broken solinoid screw on a starter that was way past its prime, so I pulled out the starter and bought a new one. Install not a problem, but I had two questions:

1) I forgot which screw goes on top and bottom (I am 41 so the memory is going). I am assuming that the wire nut goes on the bottom hole of the starter. If this is the case the upper bolt is not grabbing and it is fully entered.

2) Can the solinoid screw be replaced?

Truck starts but I am concerned about the upper bolt. Should I add treadlock?

Someone has to know this starter question.

You should feel resistance when tightening down the bolts, meaning it should be harder and harder to tighten down. You might try reversing the bolts and seeing how that feels.
