I am about to make an enclosed subwoofer box but I can not find any websites that sell the vents to let the sound out of the inside. Does anyone know of a site that sells these vents? The only thing that I could think of doing (if I cant find these vents) is using cup holders for a poker table and cutting the bottom out and then glueing them into the box.

These are the Vents I am talking about (along the bottom):

Was it an enclosed box, like the one above?

No, mine's made of a school lunch table lol. My two old boxes have funnels in but don't know where they came from. Did you check Crutchfield?

No Ill check them out. I also have been trying to email places that make the boxes to see if they can sell me some.

Well crutchfield.com that company sells all kinds of automotive electronics along with boxes and I think kits so you may have luck there.

What kind of music do you listen to? That will detremine if you want a ported or sealed enclosure

BTW the picture you posted is a band pass enclosure.

I lissen to rap and rock. The biggest reason it is going to be enclosed is because I am putting neon lights along with the subs inside the glass encloser.

Thanks guys, crutchfield had them.

PartSexPress has Aeroports.

What kind of enclosure are you going to build??

I would make a slot port. Those type of ports suck and make a lot of port noise half the time (whistling). PLus most of the time you can make the slot port out of scrap pieces of mdf left over from the box itself.

BTW, if I were you I would do a lot more research before even buying ports or even trying to make a box. You need the right amount of air space, right mdf thickness, correct design, etc. Every sub is different and has different needs. Just buying a random port will porbably sond like ass cause it wasn't made for your application. Just like the box you need to have the right amount of air space for the port.

I'd suggest you learn some more about ported enclosures and design. Round ports are actually better in most cases and have lower and smooth port velocity.

I guess you haven't heard a good ported enclosure using round ports

Actually I have. But every round port I have ever seen that was bought, has either made noise or keeps popping out. Especially pre built boxes or the ports we are talking about (not aeroport). The only ones I have heard that sound good are ones people have made themselves out of stuff like pvc or so where you can round the edge really well, but I mainly see that in SPl comp boxes or the aeroports. Who wants to invest in it when you can make the slot port from your left over pieces of mdf anyways?

I'm not trying to diss you or say you're wrong, just giving my reasoning and why I think the way I think. :)

p.s. aznboi3644:
If possible I would like to maybe go over some design ideas with you for my next box. I can build a box that sounds good, but I want to go for pure spl with my next one and have never tried that yet andw ould like soem ideas AIM: eightyseven32, if you have time.

I use PVC ports...I don't round over any edges and there isn't any port noise. I also don't use anything smaller than 4" diameter.

Sorry if I sounded a little insulting...Not meaning to. Just a generalization of round ports having port noise is off. Any port that is too small will have port noise.

So you recommend using atleast a 4" tube, I was gonna use a couple 2" or 3"

I have always used slot ports. If designed correctly with rounded edges, slot ports will have 0 port noise, and in most cases, add extra bracing as well

In general I would not recommend. However, I have used PVC in Home Theater before because I needed very long ports and need it to turn a complete 180. The reason aeroports are better than PVC is the flared end, which helps eliminate port noise. This is fact.

However, if you insist on PVC, i wouldn't recommend anything smaller than 4".

2"-3" ports are way too small...My rule is AT LEAST a single 4 inch port per 12" sub.

You can make your own flared ports with regular PVC like this

All this talk reminds me why I switched to passive radiators many years ago. They do have inherent weaknesses, or I'll call them compromises, just like anything else in audio, though.
