I need to simply disconnect my factory subwoofer on my 2006 Explorer Limited. Is the best way to do that by getting into the sidepanel? And if it is how do I go about doing that? Thanks

Ive tried opening up that sidepanel.... believe me there is no happy ending to that story. Youre going to have to take off the whole thing, not jsut the 10"x40" cover that encloses the sub. After that you're free to just replace the stock one with a new one. Its an 8", by the way.

Yea i found that out the hard way, not as simple as it looks.

what subs and amp(s) are you looking at ??? the only ones I have found are Pioneer shallow mount and the mtx t4508-4. the amp I am considering is a crunch PZi 550.5. anyone had experence with these products and who to buy from because everyone on the net has a lot of different pricing.

Just cut it off

I wonder if cutting that faux cover off would be more efficient vice tearing the whole panel off. Then you could just fabricate your own cover, that would facilitate future access to the subwoofer as well.
