:scratch:There's no leak. Fluid is present and clean in the reservoir, however I've lost power steering completely. Turning the wheel feels like it does when engine is off. I cannot drive. Serpintine belt is fine. I checked fluid and its filled to the proper line on stick, and it looks clean (not muddy or burnt). The fuses are ok. What else could cause this to happen? I've owned (my baby), this 93 Ford Explorer XL 4 x 4 since brand new. 75,000 orig miles. Never had this problem before. IF ANYONE has ANY idea of the cause of this problem or how to fix etc. Any idea at all....please send me a few words...I'd sure appreciate it. Probably means nothing but the steering went out, only days and 10 miles after a new clutch was put in. Connected? I haven't a clue. I'm a woman who doesnt want to be taken for granted when I take it in to be repaired. Maybe if I learn a little before I have it towed to repair guy I can keep my cost down...know what I mean?
Thnak you ...anyone/everyone ...for your time.

Well this is the forum for the 2011-13 explorers but i will try to help.

The pump part of the steering is part of a two peice setup. It has a feed hose and a return hose that both connect to the actual steering gear box that the steering wheel shaft connects to. The gear box is attached to linkages that attach to the wheels.

The fluid is pumped into the gear box and assists in turning when you turn the wheel. Now it could be that this gear box has gone out or the lines have a clog in them. Either way if you can turn a wrench or know someone it will cost money.

First and cheapest step, disconnect hoses and blow out with compressed air. Reattach fill with fluid and test. If this works then you are good to go.

Second really expensive. Replace the steering gear box with a rebuilt or find one in the junk yard cheaper.

A trusted mechanic would be the way to go for he will test the steering gear box and check all linkages for the problem. It maybe just the front linkages binding if you hit something.

After rereading how soon after you had tranny work. It makes me think that they may have damaged something when it was on the lift. Have a trusted mechanic, not at where you had the tranny work done, take a look.

Good luck.
