Hey, some of yall may have helped me with previous issues that I have posted about. Well here is today's dilemma. I have a 93 Explorer XLT with leather seating, stock amp radio system, and that lovely pain in the wallet sunroof. Well today is the sunroof problem. The previous owner shattered the glass and siliconed plexiglass in place of the sunroof. So i only have the interrior frame work with no handle or hinges or anything. The silicone was leaking but i fixed that and my friend decided to punch it as a joke. The plexiglass cracked down the window. Once winter breaks im tackling this problem head on before the rains come. Its all sealed for now but it needs to be replaced. I have two options:
Option A: Rip everything out. Modify the interior frame work to look a lot better. and Replace the thin plexiglass with a thick sheet of lexan. My concerns with this is option is size and sun. How thick of a piece would I be looking at, do you think? Im gonna measure next time i get a chance. And I know over time the sun yellows plexiglass. What is the best way to prevent this? Tinting? Clear coat? Any ideas?
Option B: Find a replacement sunroof. I can find more automatic sunroofs for second gens than i can pictures of cats on the internet. I however can find fewer manual first gen sunroofs than i can find posts on plexiglass sunroofs for Bugatti Veyrons..... All jokes aside, can second gen auto sunroofs fit in the same hole as first gen manual sunroofs? Are there any auto sunroofs that fit it at all? How would I got about wiring it up? Also, if i put in an auto sunroof, would I need a different headliner or could i mod my old headliner to fit?
Any suggestions? Ideas on vendors? Anyone able to find an old thread that i cant? Any help whatsoever would be great. Thanks for reading yall. Also if anyone would like me to make a DIY thread for whichever option I choose, let me know.
