The damn thing rattles only when it's closed. Is there a simple fix? Thanks

Does it rattle with the shade open or closed? Mine rattles when it's wide open. What I did was to push it back further and it was all quiet. It's quiet whenever it's closed, but it's very rare for me to shut the shade, I feel more open that way.

It rattles regardless of where the shade is :frustrate But only when it's fully closed. I usually leave it tilted up a little bit, just enough to keep it from rattling and causing wind noise.

Is there an easy way to tighten the thing or should I leave it to the dealer? Thanks..

Hmmmm...I'm not sure. Maybe you can stick some foam so it'd filter out some of the rattle??

ha my friends x started ratteling after a cuple of our buds were riding up on top of it. stll rattels today (only closed) probably a broken rivit on the track inside
jb weld it

How do I check/get to the rivets?

Did you ever take it in for the recall? I don't know if it qualified for yours, but I know the sunroof was recalled a couple times because of weak latches. Mine only rattles when I turn the bass up :D

Really? I bought my '95 used, so I never knew about the recalls. Where can I find more info on them?

Let me look for it (can't remember where I saw 'em..). I'll change this post when I find the link.

Thanks :D

my moms mazda's sunroof rattles a lot too. except hers only rattles when the slide sunshade is slid open. its been really bothersome latley, driving down the freeway with all kinds of rattling comming from the roof. is there anyway to remove the ceiling framing, and tinker around with the sunroof and look for loose pieces, or is the ceiling attached to the roof of the car permanently? thanks a lot.

( :bounce: my new 100th post! :bounce: )

I noticed mind did not start rattling untill I lowered/changed shocks + swaybars.

There ya go. Thanks man, I couldn't find that web site I was looking at earlier for the life of me. It looks like the recalls were only on earlier models (after looking mine up, I had a sunroof recall).

Thanks guys. I still need a fix for the rattle...anyone?

Well, have you looked in a Haynes or Chilton? I would guess that you might just have to tighten something down...I'll take a look tomorrow in mine (although it's a '91 version) and see if I can get any more info...I'm gonna work on this one because I never help anyone with tech questions, I feel useless :p I'll let you know if I find anything...

I'm looking for a cheap copy on ebay. Maybe an used one for like 5 bucks lol Let me know if you find anything...I really appreciate it :D

My 98 did it from about 2000 miles on... finally got them to drop the headliner and take it for a drive the sixth time I had it in for that problem... turned out that the factory forgot to install a piece of foam rubber between the inner roof brace and the outer roof panel. While driving, the components would flex just enough that they were rattling against each other. A thin piece of rubber (at the cost of about $.05) is all it took!
