Hi all, I have a friend who's anxious as hell to put in a supercharger in his X. I should mention that its a 96 4.0L RWD manual transmission. He's not very mechanically inclined, so he offered me a shot at it. I ran a search and didn't find out exactly everything I was looking for. So here are my questions...

1. He's getting a Eaton M90 and he was told it does 10psi. But since we're up here at 5200ft above sea level, I said you'd be lucky to see six. Is that on target?

2. What is meant by the "plenum"? Is that referring to the Intake Manifold? What exactly needs to be modified?

3. As far as "extra" mods go, I told him to get a AF gauge, boost gauge, knock sensor, computer chip, exhaust and headers (if he wants a few more ponies), and an Intercooler sometime down the road. Since I'm new to the X thing, what kind of computer chips are out there for the X and that handle his application?

4. I assume the 4R55E is the auto trans in the X. What is the model number of his manual tranny (its a 96)? Will it hold up at the power levels suggested?

5. He got the kit from summit to install this thing. What more will have to be purchased? (I really want him to get EVERYTHING at once as I had to wait around forever to finish my turbo kit on my car not having all the knick knack stuff).

6. Does the SC need a oil supply and return line? If so, is there a spot on the block that can be used for oil pickup? I don't mind drilling the oil pan as I've done it a few times.

Sorry, that was kinda long. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
James

might want to do a search.......this question has been asked a lot.

If you want to talk 4.0 Superchargers....Talk to "ALEC"

Good Luck,
Alec. (5.0 Alec)

He's gonna either need access to a machine shop or lots of $$$ to spend for someone to make stuff for him.

The 2 hardest components to make are the intake and outlet for the supercharger. He'll need the intake plenum for the s/c which also mounts the EGR, IAC, blowoff, and TB; and he'll need the intake plenum for the motor (between s/c and motor). Both of these are hard to produce without great machining skills and designs. Also, the BBK Eaton kit uses the M62 blower, not the M90. The M90 may be too hard on the motor.

He'll need custom computer work on a dyno, adjustable timing, and adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

The BBK install kit from Summit barely comes with anything; it just comes with some tubes and misc hardware.

Good luck, you're gonna need it!
