96' Ford Explorer XLT
I have a question.
I have found a Supercharger at a local salvage yard and, the guy wants $50 for it. IT is for a 3.8 motor. Off of a 88' Mercury Cougar (i belive its 88 model). Any chance of adapting this to my 96' 4.0 XLT? and if so, Any tips or ideas about it?
thanks
kendal

Good grief that's a deal. Do you know what brand it is? It would probably work but you would need to fab an intake plenum for it to fit your 4.0 and that's $$$.

supercharger

hey,
I reckon its just a Stock? superchager off of a Cougar. Dont know the brand name?? How much do you think it would cost for a plenum, to fab one up?
thanks

j

acutally.
Just remmbered Its off of an 81' Cougar. Dont know if that makes any difference. But just thought i would add that.

Someone was saying something around the 400 dollar range, but personally I think that's way steep. You may wanna call around to your local hi-po shop to see what they can do for you.

correct myself again

Make that a 91' cougar!
$400. I will look for anything cheaper. Thanks alot man
Anyone else got some clues?
thanks

let me know how it works if you do it, and good luck!

It's probably an M62 Eaton unit similar to the BBK kit. You might be able to call BBK and just buy the plenum and TB mount separately from their kit or see who makes it for them.

Or.....you might be able to just modify the plenum from the 3.8. I know my mechanic had a Tbird S/C and the plenums were fairly similar if I remember correctly.

Of course, I could be totally wrong!
