No one make's a SC anymore for a 1st gen X. You may be able to find a used one on Ebay or in the black market here from time to time. BBK made the X specfic one. Some guys adapted another SC to work, search on that. Jet chip is junk, the only option is a custom burn from bama chips, again search on that for more info.

there is a company that I saw yesterday that still makes an intake to use the supercharger found on the 3.8 supercharged thunderbirds. Its only a 6 lb kit and its $2500!!

just remember power is never cheap. If it is cheap initially, it will cost you more then double later:)

You can use the SC from a Nissan Xterra. Its an Eaton M-62, but you will have to custome make all the other stuff to make it work. There is a guy that makes a kit by the name of Thomas Knight and I think they are around 800 or so. On the flip side I have heard bad things about his stuff. Parts had to be modifed to fit. I would say if you could keep it under 2K it still a good deal. Also, if you are going to run an SC I would definately consider a chip, but it needs to be tuned with the SC. I have a brand new Eaton in my garage I got off e-bay for 300. Gas is to much for me to consider installing it. Mine is a DD right now.

ok any other options on the 4.0 turbo anything that will add some power without and engine swap

You'd have to custom a turbo. No one ever made that for an X. You could do a 75 shot of NOS. I've had very good results with the ZEX dry universal kits in other cars. NOS gets a bad rep, but it's really quite safe as long as you have it setup right. The 4.0L engine is really strong as long as it's in good shape. I don't see NOS being a problem.

nos scares me alot my engine though only has 74k so its in good shape still i will look in to that what about a chip insted of a supercarger just a chip that adds 20hp

I would not put NOS in front of a 1st gen A4LD. Those trannys are failure prone. On the other hand mine is sitting at 240k and is just now starting to have problems. I think mine is going in the garage for a major overhaul. I MIGHT consider selling my SC but not sure if I have given up on that or not. There is one explorer here that has a turbo mounted in the rear if I remeber correctly. Its a similar system I think that was created for Hummers(H2's) I think.

If the A4ld is rebuilt right like in the rebuild thread, a 75 shot every now & then shouldn't be a problem. Power is power, wether it be from NOS, turbo, SC, or bolt on's.
There are no chips that will add you 20hp. If you rebuilt the engine with a different cam, & ported heads & some internal work you can custom burn a chip that will net you around the 200hp range.
If your looking for power you might want to trade the X & get something else.

302 swap! I am kicking around the idea myself....

geting rid of the explorer is not and option i love the way it looks and have wanted one sence i was 6 when we first got are familys brand new off the lot i achally found that my x will move real nice some times then you can floor it and it will not hardly move at all like no gas is geting to the engine or somthing it seems and sounds smooth but lacks all power then other times its great i think its a miss or somthing. my other explorer is stock and is still faster

Sorry my bad I guess I should have included all adders. What I meant by first gen A4LD is that the 91/92 is supposed to be the weakest version of the A4LD. The 94 A4LD is supposed to have all the upgrades and the better of the lot according to the reading I have done. I would love to do the 700R4 swap but the adapters are spendy. I to am planning on a tranny rebuild using the write ups from here. ;)

hay i found out what wrong with my car the valve is burnt i was quated at 600 dollors to pull the heads and redo the valve train is that a good price

What axle gear ratio do you have? If you want your truck to be faster, you should maybe consider installing some lower gears.

There's a lot of work involved, so $600 may not be that bad (sure sounds expensive though). See what they plan on with "redo the valvetrain".

i found someone to do it cheaper who i trust more but i have to drive it like this until nov

basicly when i get it all done i want it to be faster than my freinds 150hp v6 mustag to 60

iv never raced my freind my car feals like it has more pickup
the 4.0 for having such low hp dosent seem that bad its faster than my freinds chevy 4.3

A while back I saw a 1" spacer that goes between the throttle body and the intake manifold. It bosted a 8hp increase - it didn't mention a chip upgrade. Anyone use this ?
