Does anyone know if the use of a superchip ment for a 96 4 door 4.0L OHV V-6 with automatic and 4X4 would hurt a 95 4 door 4.0L OHV V-6 with automatic and 4X4? Both trucks are almost exactly the same except the 96 has a computer code of MKK1 and the 95 is FIG1

i think you should call a Superchips dealer...

It may work just like it was meant for it, it may do nothing when it is installed or it may prevent your vehicle from starting or running right at all. You stand a 1 in 3 chance of getting your desired outcome. There is a reason that the Superchips are PCM dependant. Sometimes Ford makes modifications to the software or just the model to model variances causes the address locations for the parameters Superchips modifies to change. If the particular addresses for the parameters that the Superchip is supposed to modify hasn't changed between the two computer codes then it should work. If the addresses have changed (even by one bit) all bets are off. Superchips likely answer will be that it won't work. The only way to know for sure is to try it but it's your guess as to whether or not it damages your computer.

thought codes had to match exactly?

Just have the chip reprogrammed for that computer code.

One good reason not to risk using it anyways would be the fact of the switch from EEC-IV to EEC-V (OBD-II) from '95 to '96.
