I have a '99 Limited with the SOHC V6 with 72K on it when my car idles it has a horrible surge and pulsing vibration. Some times the car almost stalls out. Nobody can figure out what is going on. I have been to 3 Different Ford Dealers and one Lincoln-Mercury one and they all say that they don’t have the faintest idea of what is wrong so they don’t know what to fix. My father’s friend is a mechanic and he took a look at it and couldn’t figure it out either. It's EXTREMELY aggravating! Is it possible that it could be the torque converter or is in an engine problem? It doesn’t do it all the time and does it most when I stop at a stop sign or a stop light. I just want this problem fixed or else I am going to sell the piece of garbage and by a foreign car! The only saving grace in this madness is that I have the Premium Care warranty till 100,000 so I don’t have to pay a cent for basically anything that happens to the car. Thanks in advance. G

Sounds like a Idle Air Control valve to me.

You can try cleaning it, or replacing it. Try a search for "IAC" and you sould get lots of info.
