Ford Explorer 4.6 V8 Eddie Bauer Edition - we bought this vehicle October 2022 to replace our much loved 1998 Ford Explorer who had served us well for many years.
It was low mileage and imported from Japan (right hand drive), we spent 3 months tidying up the cosmetics, new brakes and discs all round, new tyres and new Miles per mph instrument cluster (as it had come with Km).
After 7 months it started to have gear slippage, non gear engage and over drive off light coming on the dashboard.
First thing done was a gear box oil and filter change - no improvement
Second thing done was the torque converter replaced - still no improvement
Third thing - the car has now been with a transmission specialist for the last 7 months, who has basically replaced everything inside the gear box making it a fully reconditioned box. So far we have spent £2.5K. They have exhausted all avenues and now believe it maybe electrical/electronic issue.
Has anyone got any advice they could impart - I can talk through everything the specialist has done, but wife and I don't really know where to turn next!!! Too much money has been spent to give up now on this Explorer!!!
Can anyone recommend a electrical specialist that has good experience of Ford Explorers of this age and model as it seems to be rare!
We are based in North Staffordshire.
Many thanks in advance.
