The truck is a 2001 Explorer sport.

I heard and felt a snap yesterday when making a left turn. Today I notice my front driver side is sitting two inches lower.

Has anyone had a similiar thing happen and what could be the issue?

The second problem is its Xmas eve and I need to travel about and an hour one way today. Is my 2001 Explorer Sport safe to drive and will I do any more damage by driving?

Happy Holidays

Bill

I wonder if your torsion bar adjuster (bolt) broke. Driving a vehicle with a broken suspension system isn't the best of ideas, but if it isn't that bad looking then you may be ok. I'd advise against it, but if it's your only means of transportation - it's up to you.

All lawyer type warning apply so.......

Get under there and check.........post back what you find.........driving w/ a broken suspension part can be verrrry dangerous. I wouldn't want you (or someone else) to get hurt. And, as for this issue and many others.......getting advice (or giving advice) over the internet w/o an inspection..............well, like I said.........."all lawyer type warnings apply."

me too

my wifes explorer is doing the same thing, leaning lower on the drivers side......I had climbed under there and looked around but never seen anything broken or driving different, so left it alone... Hmmm.. let us know what you find...

Cajun,

my wifes explorer is doing the same thing, leaning lower on the drivers side......

This "problem" that you have described might be the lean caused by..................hummm (clears throat)...........the weight of the driver. Say that 90-98% of the time, the car is being driven w/ only the driver inside..........so the springs on that side, get used to the weight distribution. Thus, more or less.........it takes a lean to that side.

Some folks have suggested........switching the leaf springs left to right. Or, just changing them.

But, as for the thread that started this..........well, he claimed he "felt a snap."

Nice recovery.

is the front end sitting 2" lower or the entire driver side? If its the front that is sitting 2" lower, than I say you broke a t-bar or the adjuster bolt. If its the entire side, it could be a number of factors, full tank of gas, mono-leafs if equipped, etc.

Ha Ha

I was thinking the same thing when I posted that comment, but my wife isn't that heavy... LOL
It actually seems like it did it from the get go. I bought the truck new in 1997 and only she and I drive it... I was thinking that I probably could adjust the torsion bars to make it level and then have the front end re-aligned.....

By the way the reason that I got on here is that the darn heater/air conditioning is acting up, seems like I got the same thing, freaking vent door flap is not working.. Heater is on all the time, unless on max ac and then you really don't get freezing cold air,,, funny is that she just turned the heater on for the first time.. Researching on this site, sounds like you guys have it going on....
Overall been a very good vehicle...
