Hello all. New to the post. Have a 2000 explorer and it time for some suspension work. Thinking of replacing all the ball joints and shocks. Are there any major obstacles I should be aware of, such as the ball joints needing to be pressed. Any sugeestions would be greatly appreciated.

If this is the vehicles first time getting the Upper ball joints replaced then you will have to buy the whole upper control arm w/ ball joint. This is because the factory UCA is a one peice design w/ the ball joint and it cannot be pressed. If it has an aftermarket UCA then you can press out the ball joint. the Lower control arm ball joint can be pressed out from factory. Replace all ball joints with MOOG suspension parts and you should probably do the Tie rod ends while you are at it. You can buy MOOG parts at Checkers and I think Advance Auto. do a search for 'ball joint replacement' and you should come up with "how to" write ups on both the upper and lower ball joints. I think they were made by MountaineerGreen. When you get around to doing this you can ask any question you need to as I just did this about a month ago and it is still pretty fresh in my mind.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread to the stock 95-01 section. Autozone sells replacement ball joints that you could use to repair the existing upper control arms.

That only works for some aftermarket control arms, and you must use the same brand of ball joint that the upper control arm was replaced with.

I replaced all 4 ball joints on my '99 without any problems. the lowers pressed out with the C clamp tool "borrowed" from autozone.

I had to take the upper a frames off and press the original joints out in a shop press. I bought all 4 greasable ball joints on ebay for less than $40 shipped.

over 12K miles on the new joints. ;) it's nice to be able to grease them.
