Switch to synthetic

Hello Forum.
Thank you for great answers to my earlier novice questions.
I have read in the formun about switching to synthetic oil on cars with some milage.
My 97 xlt SOHC has 83k miles, and I currently running on non synthetic oil.
Would it be wise to change to synthetic or has it gone too far?
Would I have to change the filter at the same time? (silly question?)

I see no reason not to switch to synthetic.

You should always chanhe the filter when you do an oil change,

If you have properly maintained the engine by changing the oil and filter regularly then go for it...The people who neglect their engines are the ones that see the most problems when switching over to synthetic oil.
