I have a 2001 Ford explorer limited (2nd Generation not 3rd) the knob next to the radio for 4X4, when I switch from Auto to high 4X4 works and the high 4X4 light in gauge cluster comes on but when switching to low the high 4X4 light stays on, If I switch fast from auto to low no light comes on. It isn't the light for the low 4X4 indicator because it lights up when starting my explorer. What is the deal. Why won't it go to low?
Thanks
Dylan

You know you have to be stopped, with the brake applied fully, and in neutral to shift into low range, right?

If Mbrooks suggestion doesn't work, then try cleaning the connections on the shift motor. Sounds like the shift motor is not moving the T-case from hi to low. You could also check the fuses.

If you are in neutral with the brake on, and it still doesn't shift, listen for there to be a clicking sound from the rear of the truck.
