2002 Explorer Sport. When I want to disengage 4-wheel drive I have to stop, turn the dashboard switch to 2-wheel, go in reverse for about 20 feet, and then it's good to go.

It's really annoying having to do this especially when driving from snow-covered back streets (thanks for nothing, Indy) to the highway. Shouldn't I be able to disengage it without reversing? The few times I've tried without reversing, the front wheels feel like they're catching (at a loss for a better description).

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Didn't think the 2002's had Auto hubs, but some one may have converter yours, that's the way auto hubs work. I have been driving a Bronco II for over 20 years with auto hubs and that is the way they work.

All trucks from 95+ you don't need to put it in reverse.. basically its a torque on demand setup t-case so basically as soon as you click it back to 2wd it'll go within a matter of seconds automatically..
