I own a 02 Explorer XLT and am going to switch out the headlight bulbs. I popped the hood open and took a quick look and did not notice any quick way of getting access to the area where the bulbs are at. Do I have to remove the battery or something??? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I dont know how they are on an 02 but on mine I remove the battery & air cleaner.
Seems to make it much easier to get the new bulb in without touching it or rubbing againsted stuff.
Good time to clean battery terminals ect.....

If you have big hands it only makes it easier to remove the battery and on the other side remove the top of the air box..trust me it makes it alot easier on your hands the next day

Alright thanks. I figured I would have to remove something because it did not look like there was very much space there for even small hands. How does the air box and battery come out??? Thanks...

I dont have an 02 so I dont know. I'll guess that for the battery you disconnect the + & - terminals and use a #8 socket w/long extension to remove the hold-down bolt. Airbox ?????
However, I think you should buy a Haynes Manual. It will pay for it's self many times over. Also it's great "bathroom reading".

Little hint when unplugging your battery, and for caution: Unplug the negative (-) first, then proceed to the positive (+). Like others said, excellent time to clean terminals and get solid power from it.

It was way easier than what everybody here said it would be. There was two metal pieces that just had to be pulled up and the headlights came right out. Decided to look in the manual and it was there. Took me just a couple minutes! Thanks for the help though.
