Now that I decided to keep the explorer, I figure Ill do some maintance to show it I care about it :P

I dont think the previous owner did much stuff to it, so Id figure the gear oils are unchanged.

What kind do you guys recommend? A lot of sports car people swear by RedLine gear oils and engine oils.
Is this a good choice for a 4x4 ? If so, what weight?
Is there any advantage to Redline (a synthetic gear oil Im pretty sure), over a cheap $2 a litre gear oil at kragen?
Redline is about $8 a quart I believe.

What do you guys think.

Also, what about Redline Water Wetter? Help keep the temps down even a little, or just a bogus gimmick?

Thanks
Paul

Does your vehicle require the increased performace that synthetic oils and additives provide (towing, offroading, ect.)?

Frequently, it is not recommended to switch from convential to synthetic lubricants. If you do you should do a flush. You should not switch back and fourth.

Incorrect. You CAN switch back for forth from conventional to synthetic with no problems. Furthermore, synthetics ARE recommended over conventional and there is nothing wrong with them. Fluid flushes are also not required to switch to synthetic fluids.
