Hey you all,
I got a quick question. Im hooking up my two amps to a cap and I'm not sure how to hook it all together.
Here is what I have to hook up:
-1 Farad cap
-Two distibution blocks mounted right beside the cap
-two amps

.... The guys down at the audio store told me how to hook it up when they were covering my box... but i Sorta forgot what they said. I have a 4 gauge + and - going straight from my battery to my cap. But from there where do I need to go?
Thanks and I'd love to have some answers tonite!
Peace
Kendal

forgot to say what i thought

Oh yea,
I was going to say how I think that it is supposed to be hooked up. It might be right but its probaly wrong.
Off of the cap should there just be a 4 Gauage going to each distribution block? Then split off the blocks to the amps?

Cap install

Don't have a cap yet myself, but I believe the hook-up goes in this order: Main power from your battery goes to one terminal on your cap, then power goes out of second terminal of cap to distribution block. Wire your amps as usual from the distribution block. Good luck:D

Sorry dude, your wrong on that one. The top of the cap will have two posts, a pos. and a neg. Run a pos wire from battrery to pos. post of cap, then from pos post of cap to distribution block. Then do the same with the neg, except ground it instead of going to the battery. Good luck!

thanks

Hey,
Thanks for the help vairking... The guys down at the Car Audio shop told me I could run the negative to the negative of the battery. You see any problems with that? I already had two sets of 4 gauge wiring coming off of my positive going to the two seperate amps. but they told me I could hook one to the negative and do it like that?
Thanks,
Kendal

cap

Ahhh..my bad!! Got it now...thanks:confused:

What types of amps are they. Do they have fuses on board and what gauge wire does the manufacture recommend.
Here is they way I do it at work if the amps have fuses on them. Connect the positive wire coming from the battery to the + of the cap. Connect the - of the cap to a clean spot on the chassis with 4 gauge. If the amps require 8 gauge I will take a 4 gauge ring terminal and insert 2 8gauge wire into the terminal, crimp it and solder it. I do this for both the negative and positive cables. Then run 1 negative and 1 positive to each amp. This way gives the fewest conection to eliminate any type of voltage drop.
If your amps do not have fuses on board then you need to come from the cap with a 4 gauge to a fused distro block and run power from the fuse block to each amp. I still do the ground the same way.

hey

My amps are a Kicker KX600.4 and a KX400.2
They are both 4gauge + and -. The both have fuses in the also. I can take the dist. blocks off if needed? I already have them mounted but ohh well.

your going to need to run a fues with in 14 inches of the positive post on your battery. cus if you go directly to your cap u might surge and blow it if u ever have to jump your car.... a better idea is to run pos from you battery through a fuse to the power on the 1st amp. then from there to the cap... that way the one farad cap is being used properly. the from the cap go to the distribution blocks and to the other amp... make sure u wire it up in parrelle (sp). before u do any wiring make sure u charge ur cap. and that should work perfectly...
40-60 fuse will be perfect.

hey

yea, I already have fuses up by my battery. I think I have it figured out on how to wire it up. I'm about finished doing it but, I decided to take a break cause it is so hot outside.
yep yep
Thanks

So you have only 1 4 gauge going to the back of the truck. I am at home and do not have my kicker info here it is all at work. What are the fuse ratings for each amp. You might have to either run another 4 gauge or step up to a 0 gauge.

hey

I have 2 sets of 4 Gauge wiring hooked up. I have everying all figured out though now. It is up and running.
I'll get some pictures and put them on here in the next couple of days.
And, thanks for the help.
