T-CASE/RED FLUID HELP!!

ok i was lookin at my gas tank thinkin about fabbin up a skid plate for it. i was also lookin at my t-case and noticed some black grease crap on it. i moved closer to see what it was and noticed red fluid comming out of the bottom of the t-case. i can try and get a pic of it, if that would help. is this a BIG problem??

Try to get a pic of that. I beleive mine leaks a little too.

the red fluid is automatic tranny fluid. that is what is used in the modern t-cases...If it is leaking, you either have a bad seal, or a loose plug. How bad is it leaking???

some residual trace is ok...but that is fresh and there is a lot....go have it checked out immediately!!!!!!

Exactly what I was thinking. That's too much and too red to leave alone.

You could try to see if those bottom bolts need tightening if you don't want to take it to the dealer just yet. On my mom's old Taurus, the tranny pan leaked real bad so I tried tightening the bolts. Never leaked after that.

Are you sure you didn't just run over a cat? Sorry couldn't resist. I agree with the others though it is too red and there is too much to let go. From the looks of it it appears to be coming out between the two halves of the transfer case. The bolts holding the halves together are probably loose. Tightening them will probably cure it. But, don't be surprised if the leak comes back. If it does, you'll need a new gasket in there as well. If you take it to Ford and are close to the ends of your warranty insist that they put a new gasket in if that is where the leak is coming from. Otherwise you might be doing it yourself in a year or two.

well i would tighten up the bolts. but i dont know what size torx bit it uses. anyone happen to know the size?

alright get this, i just called the Ford dealer, and the guy says to me: "we put in a new transfer case for the leak". i was like WHAT! dont need to worry bout no leakin seals anymore. HA HA!!

Chrysler does the same thing for leaking parts. I have replaced about 25 steering gear boxes on Rams. Just cause they was leaking out the sector shaft or was loose. They will not pay (under warranty) to asjust the box. So I install a 700 gear box and send it on its way.

Crazy I know. But it works for them. And they don't even want them back for core.
