I noticed yesterday morning that my Tach is no longer working. I used the remote start before i went to Autozone to p/u plugs & wires for a tuneup and after about 10 minutes of warmup it was stuck at 1900 RPM (likely frozen from the drive home on Sat night). The idle was normal, though. While driving, it hovered at the lower portion of the 2, but i noticed on occasion that it'd fluctuate a tiny amount (very miniscule amount). I do have the white-face, reverse-glow gauges but the needle moves freely and isn't binding.

Yesterday evening it was working again, although it didn't have the "jump" that it used to upon hard acceleration. It'd slowly climb up, and slowly decrease upon slowing/stopping.

This morning it is stuck again...

Any ideas on the problem or a fix? Could it be electrical, and if so, what else would be affected?

Thanks

Bump...

It is still only working on occasion, and working slowly at that...no jump up with the RPMs.

Ideas anyone?

If memory serves me, there is a small device near the front of the engine that has effect on the Tach. There are threads about tachs not working. Try searching and you should come up with more detailed info.

Thanks for the reply, Tom, but in all 8 pages of the search results are all types of tach problems and absolutely NO fixes.

Sorry. It's been at least 3-4 years probably that I remember the thread from. My memory is only coming up with a small round device, under the air filter box I think. Pretty sure something along those lines that had some effect on Tach function. Sorry can't be more specific. Too much beer, 2 toddlers and not enough sleep makes the memory go kaput! A mind is a terrible thing to waste........
