Tach problem

The tachometer on my 92 4X4 autmaticaly sets itself at about 3grand when you turn the key on, and it runs there with little movement that corosponds to actuall RPM. meaning when i rev up, it dosent. Any suggestions on the problem? Thanks for your help

Mine does the same thing! I would love to know how to fix it also because it drives me nuts.

I think i may have found the solution for this problem by searching previous topics. either the sender under the battery or a connection on the back of the tach that is grounding. Most people put in a new tach from a junk yard or so on, i'll try and fix it tommorw
