I have tail light guards on mine but mine is a 91 and I see yours is a 98. Check out Gerald's Explorer. It is a 99 and has tail light guards. I know there is some pics of his in his before and after and a post about the Texas Slabs not long ago. If you want a pic of mine let me know but it won't be much help.

i couldnt find his posts, can you link one for me??

post resurrection

hey, sorry to bring this post back, but................

I got some go rhino chrome taillight guards for my mountaineer today. they don't fit.. the tech guy just told me "maybe you are one of the few who just can't run guards" JUST CAN'T? what kind of customer support is that?? I've been working and working on this and there just isn't enough clearance for them.. they mount via 3 screws around the door pillar.. but the plate with the screw holes in it is not flat enough to touch the sheetmetal where the door pillars are.. and the rubber boots on the guards themselves bind on the hatch door itself when its opened and closed.. there is no way I just "can't have them" my door was designed just like everyone else's. how can I just not have space and others do??

this is driving me crazy.. and I think I'm going to have to pay shipping to get these back to go rhino.. any help would be VERY appreciated

Have you tried bending them? I had to bend the tabs on mine to make it fit around the light and clear the door. Put them up, see where you need to bend, take them down, put them back up to see if they fit, repeat. After you have bent the tabs, make sure the rubber bumper is up against the body tight. Hope this works for you.

the driver side one clears the door, but the black rubber stop rubs on it.. that could be bad.. the passenger side rubber stop gets caught in the door, which is odd because it looks like there is more clearance on that side.. I talked to some people about bending the tabs, they told me its a "bad idea" and to take a dremel tool to my taillights on the edges where the hatch door is, I really don't like the idea, but I really want taillight guards, so I'm going to have to do something...
