Tcase nightmare

transfer case stuck in neutral

97 explorer 4.0 sohc. loaned to the girl. she proceeded to get stuck in snowbank. She started switching from auto to high to low.Did so not in a nice way. Drove truck to store. Went to leave wouldnt move. Went to retrive truck. Had towed to driveway. Next day started and moved but only in low range. tried changing switch. Still in low. Changed shift motor. Still in low. drove down the street went to back up,wouldn't move. towed back to drivewav. Code 1838. changed shift relay. still won't move. trans works and shifts(you can watch the output shaft speeds. shifted fine in low range for a little while. Stuck in neutral? only one more relay lefT! Has anyone had this happen? is the T- case junk? any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Im sure I probably double posted this but not real good with tech. Have a 97 with control trac. My girl has never shifted it out of auto. Got stuck switched back and forth a few times and not the right way gets to the store. now it won't move. Got it to the driveway(towed) went out the next day had low range would not switch back to high. Changed the switch. still no high range. Changed the motor. Still now high range. Went down the street to check it went to back up nothing....nada zip. Towed to the driveway. changed the T-case relay ....still nothing code p1838. motor circut fault. is there anymore relays that affect this thing? the gem seems to be alright. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance!

I merged your two threads-give people a little time, and you will get some help.

I don't know much about the electric shifted transfer cases, so someone else will have to help, but it sounds like your on the right track.
