I wish I new. There is probably one difference that makes it not work.

Boy I wish it would work though.

IT DOES .

The Ranger Kit does work on the newer X's . Most people w/ a 4" susp. lift use the Ranger kit . ;)

Isn't that only the '97 and up Explorers not the '95 & '96 that can use that?

I'm not 100% positive but I think its 98 & up... The problem is the Torsion Brackets on the 95-97... Something about them being welded on or something like that...

On 95-97 Explorers, the rear torsion bar mounts are welded to the frame. On the 98-01 Explorers, the rear torsion bar mounts are bolted to the frame, making it a lot easier to take off and relocate (i.e. drop) with the front suspension. The Explorer lift (and Ranger lift front end, X's have a different rear so lifting that will have to be done with either a SOA set-up or new leaf springs) will work on 95-97 Explorers, you just have to cut off the torsion bar mounts and replace them with 98-01 torsion bar mounts (or fabricate a drop bracket for the 95-97 torsion bar mounts to attach to). This is what all the suspension lifted 95-97 X's have done, unless someone has done a solid axle swap in the front. If someone has, post some pics!!!:D

Hope this helps.:)

if your willing to do it there nothing that can stop you from doing it! get out the cutting torch the welding rig and double up on the testosterone. hell, you buy it and ill do all the cutting and welding youwant as long as its on your truck:confused:

one days when its all paid for i would like to do the RCD coil over and forget about the welding and cutting.:hammer:

Please don't tell me

I absolutely need testosterone to do this:hammer: it figures .... now that is a part I will never be able to attain..... :banghead:

is that all it is??? damn well then looky here ...next March I will be purchasing that very kit....I have someone who will weld and take off but doesn't want to do major modification work..... that is why I have been waiting for a kit that is the most compatible....

So.. let me get this right. If the T-bar mounts were ground/cut/torched or whatever off then the '98+ mounts can be used to replace them. Then the ranger lift will work? ???

Yes, at least the front part of the lift will. Trailmaster has an Explorer kit available. So, with an exception for the torsion bar mounts, everything on the Explorer kit will work. But I believe (if memory serves me) that the Superlift kit is the better of the two. Dead Link Removed

Our you could wait and see if RCD makes a kit and get rid of the torsion bars completely (more offroad able w/o the torsion bars). Because the torsion bars are dropped, with the mounts, they can easily knock into obstacles and other terrain debris.

Hope this helps. :)

I start at RCD on Dec 10th as a production engineer and I promise you unfortunate people with '95+ Explorers that anytime I'm involved in deciding vehicles to design a kit for your explorers will be mentioned. I would think that if they needed proof I could easily do a search on here for RCD and show them how much interest there is for a kit from just the 3-4 photos floating around.

i was looking at the torsion bar adjuster mounts last night. i think that the one addition i would make would be a cross brace or something reinforcing the frame where the mount would be located. the one thing we will have to double check is that kit (i think) has drop down brackets for the torsion adjusters so we might have to buy the bolt on torsion adjusters from a junked ex or new, or fab and weld the drop down brackets to the old adusters. one thing that would be of utmost importance would be mainting the integrity of the frame. too much cutting, drilling and welding could seriously weaken it.

i like the RCD ranger coil over concept myself.

What do you mean when you talk about RCD??

You do not have to cut anything on your Explorer frame to make the rear torsion bar brackets work on your 95-97 Explorers. What is cut is the brackets that come with the lift, and if you buy the torsion bar plates and adjusters from Ford that come on the 98's you will not have to modify the other side of the bracket.

This picture shows the bracket as it would sit with the frame going over the top of the bracket. On the right you will see where we cut the bracket in a curved shape. This was cut to go over the original torsion bar bracket that is welded to the frame.

Now I had to modify the bottom of the bracket where the torsion bar goes, but this is because I used all the original stuff from my 97, but if you take from a junker or buy the torsion bar adjuster and plates that come from a 98 or newer, you won't have to modify the bottom

It should look just like this, if you buy all the torsion bar adjustment stuff for a 98+ model.

What about the Spring Lift (F-150) Jobbies

I read somewhere that you sould lift the front with Coil err spring spacers from an F150 lift kit. Would that work and if so is it better or less stressful on the ol babe than the Tor. Twist. (Jazzercise). :bounce:

nice pics ray. i am saving them for future reference. but if i follow the threads you would recomend (if it were to be avaliable) the coil over RCD kit?
thanks, that clears things up mentally for me as well.

Ray
Aprox how much $ do you have into your lift? (not counting your labor) I would like to follow your example if doesn't hurt the wallet too much.

RCD= www.racecardynamics.com

They are working on a coilover a-arm front end that replaces the torsions.

As for the F150 spacers I think you're confused, that is only for the '91-94 Explorers that use the TTB front end not the A-Arms. Crawl under a old square front end bodystyle in the parking lot and compare that front end to your '95, you'll see that basically nothing is the same.

what about for us 2WD people's that have 95-97 model's?????

please help

and i'm not talking about the TT/Shackle, Body Lift, or Spindle lift......something different

Actually I would recommend the Coil over kit as opposed to the torsion bar lift. The reason is that with the torsion bar lift, the torsion bars get lowered by 4", which gives you 4" less under the truck than you had before. I have gotten high centered before on my torsion bars, With the coil over not only do you get 4" of lift but you won't get caught on the torsion bars because ther aren't any to get caught on. More space to not get caught. I also don't like Trailmasters steering slide. RCD is using new steering knuckles like Superlift.
