Temp gauge wiring

So I bought this B&M Temp gauge from Ebay, $20 shipped. The only problem is it is just the gauge, no instructions, no wires, no sender, no nothing as far as the operation of the gauge. I went to summitracings' website and got the instructions.

Here is my q: Since the OBD2 has trans temperature available in it's data, can I just tap into what ever wire it is sending that signal to the data port and make the gauge work? The gauge has 4 posts, 12v hot, Ground, Signal and a male spade pin for the light. I'm thinking I'm going to mount the gauge in the upper **** box of the center console so I'll tap the rear air lights for the light, Ground can go anywhere metal, 12v I think I'll probably tap into the rear air too. If I could run a single wire to the EEC/Data port that tells the scanner the trans temp, it would make life much easier.

i did an aftermarket trans gauge a while back. I put a sender in with a brass t-fitting inline with the trans cooler exit line. gets a decent reading there.

I know I could do that if I went out and spent $50 on fittings and a sender. I'm trying to avoid that.

If the trans temp can be read through the OBD2 scanner, there has to be a way to tap that for a gauge.

i hear ya. i wonder if its the same type of signal, coming from a typical sender. or one of these cheapo ford switches that report either everythings fine, or STOP ITS TOO HOT deals...like the oil pressure switches.

the temp senders are like 15-20 bux, and a brass t-fitting should be under 10

Where's a sticky I wrote up for a cheap and easy way to install a tranny temp guage. Cost around $20 total and takes less than an hour.

I saw that, but like I said, I don't want to buy a sender if I don't have to. I also don't want any more wires running all over my truck. I'm pretty sure I should be able to tap a wire under the dash to give me the signal the gauge needs.
