I recently this past weekend installed a new tensioner Pulley as the one that was on the explorer was making a chirping,bird-like sound. Well, the sound went away, then I took a 90-mile trip home, and guess what, the chirping is back.

My question is,If I replaced the pulley for the tensioner with a new pulley, why would it squeak after only 90 miles? Do I have to worry about the bearing going bad? I dont understand what is going on :thumbdwn:

There are other components that can also be responsible for the sound:the idler pulley, the belt itself as well as the alternator.

Guess I should mention, that this all started with the thinking of the noise was coming from the alternator. So,I had the alternator rebuilt. After I installed it back on,the chirping noise was still there. So, I installed a new pulley on the tensioner.

and yet I still have the chirping noise,so should I replace the idler pulley?

what kind of condition is the belt in? If you see cracks and such replace it that may fix your problem. I need to replace my idler pulley and tensioner soon - it's chipring a little

mate, i had the same problem and it got worse when i put a 200amp alt on i need 200 because i run 3 batts duel in the girl and 1 in the offroad trailer all to run lights fridge the likes all it took was a new belt but next time i'll buy a slightly smaller belt the alt gets hot because of a loose or stretched belt i have 9/99 v6 sohc xlt rhd here in aussie ave a g'day foxy1149

Did you change the belt? I don't recommend belt dressing, but its a good way to tell if you have a bad belt. Just spray it on the ribbed part of the belt while truck is running and if chirp stops you got bad belt. Now the downside to this is, you have to clean all the pulleys with a towel to get the junk off. I say just change the belt. Can't go wrong by putting on a new belt. Also check your idler pulley. Relpacing it is very cheap.. New Belt and Tensioner Pulley = Cheap insurance.
