I have had a rough idel problem for a while now, with no codes at all. I have been told that the coil pack may be faulty...so I did a resistance test across all 3 paired banks(all on one coil pack, 96 4.0 OHV). Yes, the coil pack was completly disconnected. Each pairs resistance measured approx 14.8 to 14.50. These are outsied Haynes Repair manual specs, which list the spec at 6.5 to 11.5 k ohms.

So i ran to autozone and I tested one of their NEW coil packs for my truck... the readings? about 13.0 across all 3 banks!?

Anyone have a thought? thanks

That's not uncommon, your Multimeter may not be accurate enough for the job at hand. I had the same problem with the numbers being out of spec and I checked a good one which was still out of spec but closer.

My feeling, replace the coil pack. Its a lot of money, but they are known to crack, and a number outside another known one (of which, the Autozone off-brand one will not always be as "In-Spec" as the Motorcraft one's), I would say that your coil is on its way out.

I replaced mine with Aftermarket coils (Accel coils) that cost about $50 less per coil than the one's I could get from AZ. I don't know if anyone makes an aftermarket coil for the 6-cyl, but couldn't hurt to check.

Good Luck.
