Theoretically if I put a 12 volt tester on the coil connectors where the spark plugs wire would connect shouldn't I get a spark everytime I try to crank the motor? I assume its my coil but I want to be 100% certain before I start working on my truck.

Update.. Found my multi-meter.. I tested the Ohms on my coil.. they are as follows first group 12.4 k ohms, 2nd 12.6 k ohms, 3rd 12.5 k ohms. I have a feeling its shot.

I don't follow. Where are you placing 12V. Your spark plugs are much higher than 12v.

I'm not sure about the resistance values, but they sounds OK to me. Usually if one of them is way off is when you have problems.

There could be a # of other reasons your not getting spark.
CPS, crank position sensor.

I originally thought about using a 12 volt test light to see if the coil was good when I cranked the motor but I after some insight I decided to search better for my multi-meter.. I found out normal is .3-1.0 ohms so I'm definately way off.

The plugs are in series so the resistance from from one post to the one on the other side should be about that resistance. Since they match so easily, they are fine. For the same reason, if you use a spark jump tester the other side HT post must be connected to a spark plug. The plug in connector to the electronics will have a common (R/LG) wire with a low resistance to the other pins. Might want to check if you got that 12V power. My money is on the coil pack not being bad.

update.. It runs.. It was the crankshaft position sensor I suspect. I disconnected and re-connected that metal band that surrounds the crankshaft position sensor and it started right up..
