I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum for all of your insight and thoroughness. Through out the year's of owning my '02 Explorer (bought new in '02) this vehicle has been bittersweet, I really like the truck, but has also been the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned,...EVER. It has done all that I have asked of it (except while broken), and when broken I have always jumped to this site to diagnose and weigh my repair options. I am amazed at the completeness that you all have offered with step-by-step instructions with pictures. Spot on assessments of the short comings from the factory reguarding our 3rd gen trucks, and by installing aftermarket parts that can be bought and installed making these trucks better and more reliable. I've had more than my share of problems with my Explorer; transmission rebuilt, failed gas gauge instrument cluster, broken rear springs, failed fuel pump, 4 wheel bearings, rear differential, rear axle seals, blend door, etc......... The truck only has 77,000 well cared for miles, garage kept and never hit. A "creampuff" that is certainly better and more reliable than when it rolled out of the factory! I took the truck into the dealership and the service manager commented on how nice and well cared for the interior and exterior were. He said he could easily sell my car if I wanted to look for a new Explorer. I told him I've been too busy fixing Ford's MESS with this truck, and I finally have the truck's shortcomings fixed and I'm ready to get some carefree miles out of this truck, and that I certainly don't have time to start fixing another Ford product with manufacturer's defects all over it!!! He chuckled and said those '02s were "problematic", no s**t, really? Thank you also to great companies like Timken bearings, Monroe Quick Struts, Moog suspension for making the 2002 Explorer the truck it should have been from the factory!!! Thanks again to everyone here who has helped keep this truck on the road! P.S. Come to think of it, I bet I have spent more on this truck in repairs than ALL of my other 12 vehicles....combined, thanks Ford!
