I was been trying to locate the source of this noise. It started when my tire reach more than 60K miles of usage. The tread seems to be OK. I measured it and a little less than 1 cm. depth. Can it be from the tire? The sounds varies depending on the speed, wind speed, and road condition. I can hear it only as soon as I hit 75 mph and up. I was hoping I can still use my tire for 3 months more.

the tread doesnt really seem like the proble.... 2/32" is all that is required to be legal..... what kind of tires are they? and 75 is too fast to go in an explorer anyways... ;)

Oh, sorry. I have Michelin LTX M/S. Here in Long Island Expressway (I495), we hit 75 mph & up sometimes.:nono: At that speed I dont have or feel any vibration only that noise:rolleyes:

75+ ...it's probably a siren

I'll vouch for Nonoy, I have been doing 80 in the far right lane on the LIE and still get passed.

I agree with most of the others.. 75 and UP? heh, only time I do 75+ is when I'm passing someone.. and with my vehicles current problem thats nearly impossible to acheive or maintain.

my guess would be maybe you need to have yer alignment checked, at higher speeds yer tires can wobble and make noises sometimes.. but.. if that doesn't fix it.. it could be like yer differentials or something? I dunno.. I'm no expert on noise.. but I'm tryin :)
