 Ok...i woke up this mornin and my mom tells me thather truck is stuck inmanhattan it wont start....i thought it didnt crank so it had to be starter solenoid or relay or switch or sumtin....i go there and it starts right up...but...it doesnt stay on unless you keep the pedal pressed...i have absolutely no idea what can cause this to happen.....so i decide to power brake the bastid home so i can at least get it to my garage...halfway along the way it was fine, i could take my foot off the pedal and it stays at idle around 500 rpm.to me it probably needed to warm up....its fine now but ill go back down after it cools off and c what happens if the same thing happens then ill have to dig deeper...if anyone knows anything plz help....

btw: its a 2000 ford explorer sport v6 2 door...i dunno if its xlt xl xtl lxt tlx or none of them ford designations cuz i dont drive it it;s my moms car ...prolly xl...whatev....ty ty ty ty ty ty ty ty

Sounds like the IAC. Idal air controler. Its a silver cylindrical device under the cover on top of the motor. Replace/clean and you should be all set. Do a search here for IAC and you will come up with all sorts of stuff.

hey man i had the same thing on my ranger ... if his idea doesnt work check out the idler relay in the fuse box in the engine area.... this happend to me and left me stranded a few times but could never really be diagnosed by my technician guy.. then finally he came out when it was stuck and he replaced it with a new relay and it worked fine again... dont you love sitting a stop light with ppl looking at you wondering why your revvin your exhaust hahaha mine was loud back then..

yup..

yup. thats exactly what happened to me i had to power brake the thing all the way home in the city that means a traffic light every block lol was fun tho.i love the weird faces they give you...when they looked at me i revved even higher. :D .Flowmasters he he...im gonna get it checked out in my job...piece o crap....lol.....j/k i love the x also...ty

Suggestion: The IAC (idle air control valve) is what keeps the truck idling when your foot is off the gas pedal. If it is stuck, your engine will stall. Try tapping on it with a wrench- it's round like a minuture beer can and is on the driver side of the intake - about mid point from the front to the back of the engine. It's metal - typical silver color and has some wires plugged in to it. Most are not cleanable (they get gummed up with carbon). Mine got stuck and the engine wouldn't idle. I changed it and that fixed that problem. It's easy to change. If you tap on it, you might get it unstuck enough to get the truck home.
