I've finally cracked...I'm gonna lower my explorer :) I talked to a custom auto shop the other day and they said I'd be looking at at least $200 to have it lowered (about 1 3/4"). I know it would be much more because they said they haven't lowered an x before so there would be more work involved. I told them about the E.E lowering kit and they looked at me like I had three heads. I want to get the EE kit and then have someome install it for me. The shop I went to said they charge $50 an hour for labor. I haven't had anything done before by a shop so I have no idea if this is a good or bad rate. What do you guys think? Any idea how long it should take a shop like this to do the work? Finally should I get the EE kit or should I see if the shop can work something out for me? I'm afraid if I let them figure it out they'll rape me with the cost. Thanks for the advice.

You shouldnt need the shop for anything but the alignment! The EE kit is so easy to install! The 50.00 an hour is about right! I think I normally pay about 45.00 an hour. If you dont feel comfortable doing this then @ least order the kit and have them install it so they dont kill you with there custom drop! Good Luck.

You sould buy the kit from explorer express or you can do it yourself for cheaper. Go to your local auto parts store and buy some blocks to lower the back and just crank down the torsion bars. Then have it aligned. The alignment shop should be able to get the camber adjusters and put them in. I removed my adjustment bolts completely and my ford dealer was able to align it. All they do is order a accentric kit (oval shaped adjusters that go on the control arm bolts) and put them in insted of the stock hexagonal adjusters.

i just lowered my 97AWD about 2 weeks ago and it cost me $29.15.got the parts at POOP boys . i havent had it aligned yet so the front tires are tucked in at the top a little..took me 2 hours to do by myself in my driveway..
