hello and thanks for looking ive had the dieseling noise on 99 sohc ex on hot or cold starts for a while now on occasions (not every start may 1 in 10 or more so its not everytime) but go away after a minute or so if left to idle and a lot quicker if put into drive and move away, this noise cant be heard any other time only after starting.ive changed both tensioner yesterday and the dieseling noise is still there,i then went round with a block of wood and placed and listened on all the casing around front and rear timing area ,all i could hear was the rotation but nothing else consitant with the dieseling i was hearing,i then placed on injector rail and the dieseling noise i was hearing coincided with injectors pulsing,is it possible the noise ive had wasnt tensioners but something like faulty injectors or maybe something in that area?any thoughts please, richard

You will have to describe to us a bit better what a dieseling sound is and exactly what you're hearing. Anything right now would be pure speculation.

sorry its the noise which with your eyes shut you could tell if a car idleing in front of you was a diesel engine or petrol engine.most people associate the noise with chain rattle or death rattle,i was wondering if any one had found a different cause for the noise was as mine isnt every time it starts up
