I have a2001 sport trac, with a problem with the gear ratio code, i replace the whole tranny and it still has the same code, i replaced the wiring harness inside the tranny, but it still has the same code, i think i need to replace the pcm, but i have issues with PATS/ security keeps flashing and vehicle will not start if I replace the pcm with the same call code (i.e. jvx3) ,any help or ideas? thanks

Replaced suspect PCM on 2000 Explorer. Had a locksmith make/program a new key and reprogrammed the PCM. Cranked but not fire! He suspected the replacement PCM was also bad, so I put in ANOTHER used one. Another locksmith tried programming it. All looked good, but same result; crank but no start. "Theft" light flashes rapidly. With the "old" PCM it starts right up. They must not know the secret to getting the PCM to call off the PATS ! Help!

'00 to '01 PATS nightmare.

Just ran into this crappy problem tonight. I needed to switch the PCM on my 2000 and have a spare one from a 2001 (whole vehicle, actually). Went to start it and it wouldn't fire. Threw my SCT programmer/scanner on it and it said "VEHICLE THEFT", "VEHICLE IMMOBILIZED". There is no PATS disable feature on my programmer, so I'm going to switch the steering columns (that have the PATS bullcrap in them) and use the matching keys from the '01. Might as well swap the GEM modules while I'm at it as well. Both vehicles are 5.0 AWD, with the same equipment, so I don't anticipate any problems, other than some creative cursing for the neighbors to hear!

I'm not towing it to Ford and I only have one key for the 2000 anyway, so I can't just program another one myself, so I'll be making good use out of the two keys from the 2001.

Anything else I might be missing??? I sure hope not! When I switch things over later this week (weather permitting), I'll post my results.

How far are you from Foxwoods? I'm planning to go up there within the next week and I can program your computer for you. I can also program another key for you if you want.

I really appreciate the offer! I'm about 45-50 minutes away from Foxwoods, but I could get it a half hour closer to there. I'm even switching the doors looks so the keys will unlock it if the battery dies, lol. They're talking more rain this week, so I might do this tomorrow if I'm super ambitious. If I don't get this done quickly then I'll message you! Thanks!

Ok let me know I may be heading up there Tuesday.

When I built Pickle I used the PCM, the PATS module (behind passenger airbag) and the PATS collar from the ignition, with matching key. AND IT WORKED 1st TIME!

Just saying

I think I read somewhere on this forum (awhile ago) that some people put the PATS collar in and then tape the key that matches up to it in the column. Supposedly this keeps you from replacing the ignition cylinder, so you can keep using your original keys. I guess as long as the key is in close proximity to the collar, it will work. It rained today so I didn't get anything done. I'll give it a whirl, though. Thanks for the info!

that won't work if the key, collar, pats module don't match the pcm.. and doing that will render your vehicle totally easy to steal with a screwdriver as the immobiliser feature of the PATS system is being bypassed by having the key strapped to it.. not wise

Yeah, I have a complete parts vehicle, so I have and will replace everything. Thinking back on taping the key to the PATS might of been someone's answer to getting an aftermarket alarm/remote start to work; not entirely sure.

Just an update: Finally replaced everything today (ecu, module, pats ignition collar, ignition cyl) and it works like a charm. Thank goodness I had everything from my donor vehicle.

Thanks to blueka for all the info and thanks to 1998Explodasport for offering to reprogram the computer!

Yes, I'll be getting around to that soon! I've researched a lot of stuff on here that will be put to good use when I do my t-case swap and HOPEFULLY get my Dana 44 under it this year! Have the Dana 44 out of an early Bronco. Did one swap on an '87 Ranger a long, looong time ago, but that was a lot easier compared to ditching the torsion bar setup on this thing!
