I recently replaced the worm gear and the dash lights to blue in my 1997 explorer xlt. Now whenever I accelerate the needle jumps while accerating and decelerating. Anyone know how to fix this and calibrate the speedometer and rpm gauge?

When I pulled the worm gear off to fix the odometer there was nothing left of it. I ordered the one that said it was for my car but my odometer, tripometer still don't work (I may have installed the worm gear upside down) and now the speedometer needle jumps up instead of freely moving while accelerating and slowing down.

To me, this say that there's something wrong internally with the odometer/tirp and there may be other issues where your worm gear is at...

Ok quick update. I took it all back apart and flipped the gear over. Now the tripometer and odometer are rolling like new. I took the truck up the interstate and set cruise control with the gps and set the needle down. Well now it seems accurate when u get to a speed and hold it but getting there it jumps. For example I was accelerating off a red light coming home from setting it. As I was accelerating I noticed that the gps was reading 40mph but the needle was stuck like on 24mph but when I got to 45 on the gps and held it for a sec the speedometer needle jumped to 44.

I just recently put new brakes on my 1993 ford Aerostar and now speedometer is jumping crazy after you pass 60 mph.

Remove & clean the RABS sensor which is located on the top of the rear differential, and clean it. This part has a magnetic tip which is capable of picking up metallic dust.
The new brake sensor was causing the problem replaced it with old brake sensor and so far so good. Speedometer okay now.
