hey yall, newby on the forum. I just bought my Dad's Explorer from him a week ago, and I don't think it likes it's new home that much. Saturday, the thermostat stuck closed and I had to get it towed back to my house. I replaced the thermostat and it ran fine. When I got home this evening I smelled antifreeze and popped the hood and found that it is wet by the thermostat housing. When I bought the new thermostat, it didn't come with a gasket and I figured it was fine b/c I noticed there is an o-ring in the housing. Did I miss something? I thought I tightened the 3 bolts on the housing enough... I didn't want to overtighten it and crack it. Should I try to simply retighten it and use blue Loctite? Whadayathink? Thx for any info! Heres a pic....

Its always prudent to replace the o ring.

Good luck .....

O-ring Placement?????

I want to replace the o-ring, however when I pulled out the old thermostat I couldn't find one to replace! I tried putting the thermostat in without it and fluid flows out like a garden hose is turned on.

Where does the o-ring go???? I've tried a couple places to no avail.

nevermind. the part store gave me the wrong o-ring. retards.
