hey guys so my ex has been having a real hard time heating up lately, often times the needle hardly gets past the C on the guage. i heard that this is usually the thermostat so i picked up a thermostat at ford. i've done research to try to find where the thermostat is in the cooling system but the stuff i've read just kind of assumes i know where it is.

so i was wonderng if you guys could give me a good description of where it is and how to replace it.

i've heard its not too hard but i honestly can't find where it is :(

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to where it connects to a metal tube. This is the thermostat housing. It is attached to the engine by three bolts. Remove the bolts and pull the housing away from the engine. You should be able to see the thermostat in the engine block. Remove the old thermostat and insert the new one making sure it faces the right way and the small hole in the thermostat ring is at the top. Reinstall the housing but be careful when tightening the bolts because they strip easily.

yes but to get to the third bolt you will have to remove the automatic belt tensioner. it has two 17mm bolts. get those out and you will have access to the tstat. the temp problem could be the temp sender malfuntioning with an air buble in the system or is disconnected. make sure you have the correct amount of fluid and stuff. check your hoses and pump and fan too.

i think also witht the tstat you need a gasket or just use RTV sealnt and make one. im not sure if the new ford Tstats are now fail safe. i know they used to fail shut.
Ill do a search for expert village of some videos and post them they did have them

you dont have to take apart anything if you have the right tools

i have alot of flex sockets and wobble extensions and was able to do the job in about half an hour without takeing anything apart that didnt need to be

most T-stats are sold with the gasket unless they dont use one, mine came with one.

You don't need to remove the tensioner. Just remove the serp belt and the tensioner will spring out of the way. Use 1/4 drive 10mm swivel socket on the 3 bolts. When you get the new tstat, make sure you get the O ring gasket as well. It's not always included.
