OK, here's the story.

As you see, I have a 94 Limited. After a couple outings with jrgaylor, Dreamr and Arsoul, I have decided on a little lift. So I order the James Duff 2.5" kit. Looks good but after riding with jrgaylor and him turning up his RS9000X's on the trail, I decided I wanted the same adjustability, because I can :p .

Enter 4wheelparts.com. They reviewed the size chart and send me the RS99136 for the front and the RS99185 for the rear.

I lay them next to the JD shocks and they aren't even close to the same size. Acutally they are about the same size as my stock Edelbrocks on the truck now. :(

Brilliant me, I call Rancho and tell them I need shocks 3" longer for my Explorer. Bad idea, "We no longer make our lift kit for the Explorer due to its high center of gravity. We don't make any shocks for a lifted Explorer either, sorry" :fire:

OK, I call 4wheelparts.com for a return goods authorization #. Reluctant to give up a sale, a guy named Mark  spent the next 30 minutes looking up measurements of the RS9000X shocks and comparing them with the various measurements I have taken from the truck, the short shocks and the beefy JD shocks.

In the end I will be getting the RS99117 and RS99266 that match the JD measurements to within 1/4".

SO,,,,,,,, anyone looking for RS9000X shocks for a gen1 with 3" suspension lift will want those :D

Now I have a lot of work to do on the X

hate to break it to you but 3" of lift doen not neccessarily mean 3" longer shocks.

I lifted mine about 3" but i need shocks that were 7" longer to cpmpensate for additional articulation. My suggestion is to remove your shocks fromt eh factory locations and pul your own mounts in. Then to measure holw long you need them drive through a ditch that maxes out your flex with no shocks on and take measurements.

Perhaps 3" of lift won't equal 3" longer shocks in some cases, but in this case it will.

I wasn't clear in the first post that, the James Duff kit came with shocks specific to their kit but I wanted the adjustability of the RS9000X's.
