Things to do under $100?

I just bought my mother a remote start for Christmas. At Target they're $80 w/ power locks and $50 w/o power locks. It doesn't have a kill switch built in, but you could probably make one of those yourself.

Remote Starter Installation

How hard is it to install these. I've hear people say to have it done professionally because it can be a PITA.

I'm all over a remote started for under $100 but I'm not going to pay $300 or whatever to get it installed.

It looks like I'll find out Thanksgiving Day weekend. My step-father is not one for working on cars, so rather than installing this thing while it's snowing out, I'm giving it to her early. From what it looks like, there are exactly six wires. And all wires and splices are provided along with a video. Seems easy enough. My father on the other hand paid $400 to have one installed. So I think I'd rather do it myself.
