I'm thinking about getting the 10W7 after I heard them at the local audio shop. I've been suckered in I guess. Anyways, do you think I should also upgrade my 'premium speakers' and HU while I get the W7? I think it sounds pretty decent I guess. TIA.

Getting the 10w7 with stock audio equipment is like having a 600HP engine and never accelerating past idle. You just won't appreciate it as much. Once you have this subwoofer, you'll want to get loud, and your stock system won't be able to handle it. I'd say you should get a HU, 5 channel amp, and the sub. You're looking at around $900, $200 less if you install it. I can help more if needed.....

Don't be suckered into spending money by what you heard at an audio shop! What do YOU want to accomplish with your system? Are you lloking for better sound with a little extra bass? Or are you looking to annoy everyone else on the street with bass?

huh? for $900 for those items, youd end up getting bottom shelf stuff. hell, any decent HU is at least $300 alone; im not talking about the best of the best, im talking about a good quality HU with some nice features. 5 channel amp, plus the sub, plus the box, plus the wires, is gonna be a helluva lot more. also, if youre gonna get all that, you might as well get door speakers while youre at it. whats the point of amping the crap stock speakers when the rest of the system is gonna be nice stuff?

im with robb though. get what YOU want, not what the audio shop tells you youre gonna need for a "kickass setup." if i were you, id go step by step (which is how i always do my audio stuff.) get the sub and amp first. then see if you want door speakers, and go from there.

Pioneer DEH-P7400MP -thezeb.com $235 shipped.
Pioneer TS-A6857 -thezeb.com (2 sets) $105 shipped.
MTX 4405 5-channel amp -ebay $250 shipped.
Box ~$70.
Sub ~$150

that's $800, plus wiring and installation.

So I was off by $100. give me a break. I'd say Pioneer, MTX, and JL are not crap, too.

Well, the W7 was only hooked up the the 500.1 JL amp, and that's what I'm going to get, my friend is selling me his kenwood amp so I'm gonna put that in there also. which type of speakers should i get for my doors? I just want the W7 because it sounds good overall no matter the sound level.

I thought buying a 5 channel amp implied door speakers, too. Sorry, I should have specified.

that's sounds good. Hopefully you can doo all this yourself, it will save tons of money. I like the Pioneer speakers for the money, they fit perfectly in the 6"x8" hole. Other makers produce speakers of this size too, Kenwood, etc. I like the Pioneer 3-ways, though, for the money. Check out thezeb.com.

I'll probably have the audio shop install it for me because I never installed a sound system in a car before ;)

well, jl is very good. mtx has some very good stuff, and some very crappy stuff, i didnt take in-depth looks at any of that stuff. personally, i dont like pioneer at all, but that doesnt mean its garbage. my point is, if youre gonna get a top shelf sub like any jl sub, you dont wanna get cheese to power it.

marchand, for door speakers, if you dont wanna spend an arm and a leg, id go with infinity kappas.

I was thining about getting the kappas for the doors, they sound pretty good to me, but i also heard the focals, they sound very nice!

i had the kappas in my last explorer and i loved them (i had a crap amp on them though.) i think the kappas are the best bang for the buck, though i havent heard everything out there.

just for reference, i also had 2 12" jl's on a ppi amp and they sounded amazing. a friend of mine had the same subs in the same box with a crap amp, and you could definitely hear the difference.

That's $$, but if you have it, go for it.

Well I changed my mind of getting the W7. I'm switching to the 10W6V2 now since it seems like it suits me better. Not quite as loud as the W7, but gets the job done and has great SQ.
