Mods. please feel free to move this, sorry.... OK. has anyone tried to make an old ford long bed in to an eight foot trailer? i have seen this and i thing it is a great idea. i used to have an 86' Mazda pick up long bed with a camper shell. and i wanted to make into a cheap trailer but lack of $ and know how made this impossible!!! i am looking for ideas tips and any PICS anyone may have. I an thinking about getting a mig welder also do i really need training?

If you get everything from the rear of the truck it's easy.

Cut the frame off at the rear of the cab.
Remove the driveshaft.
Keep the differential intact and with fluid, an open diff would be best
Weld added support to the frame (crossbars).
Attach a "V" shaped assembly to the front for the hitch.
Either splice into the original wiring or run new wiring for the lights.
You could even figure out how to run the parking brake cable into your truck, maybe through a disconnect, for emergency trailer brakes.
