We'll I'm enjoying my explorer that's been modded,,,, but there's one thing that's really disgusting me! The horrible drink, dingy stained carpet!!! I'm a neat freak and it turns my stomach when i see the stains from the kids of the previous owners. So i'm thinking of putting new carpet inside, any good links? and how hard is this to mess w/. I'll need a new trunk area also, due to the wet dog from the previous owner as well !!:D

I would reccomend trying some good rug shampoo from your local Autozone. That stuff works wonders, I've seen it make some pretty disgusting carpets look like they were just replaced with brand new ones.

I believe you can pull the carpet out of the x in one piece. Trace it onto some new carpet, and put the new carpet in. I have been thinking of this mod also, but havn't really researched it before. I did a boat one time and this was the may i did it. It worked great. So tell me what you find out. I have shampooed the crap out of my carpet and it still looks horrible. I hate it.

You can replace the carpeting with the new unit with no problem. Take seats out, center console out and you're done. You might have a bit of a problem with removing front seat belt buckles... those bolts are generally a major PITA. Rear is a lot easier. I have seen a page with molded plastic liners as replacements but don't know if they have anything for the "X"... would love to see it available though.

Here's something though:

Damn right they are!!! Would have been alot easier if they didn't use they star style bolts. After 2 hours of cussing, 3 twisted tourqe bits, and a razor blade I would have never got my carpet out. But other that that, it is very simple to remove everything. Good luck!!!

There are companies that make molded replacement carpet for vehicles including Explorers. I just saw some in the most recent Summit Racing catalog. So you might try that site. They was some other threads on here about it also.
